Miscellaneous Information
Franklin was born on 15 December 1919 at Iroquois Falls, Ontario. His parents were born in Arnprior, Ont.and his father had worked as a labourer. He had a brother James and a sister Gwendolyn. He attended St.Aloysius School 1931-1933 (Entrance) and North Bay Collegiate 1934 and Iroquois Falls 1935-1937. He had High school Entrance and 3 years Junior Matric (apart from Algebra and Latin). His sports interests were swimming, hunting, tennis and badminton . He enjoyed stamp collecting and had a St John’s Ambulance Diploma in First Aid. Franklin spent four years between 1938 and 1941 as a Papermaker for Abitibi Pulp and Paper company. He was a Sapper at the Petawawa Military Camp between 17 April 1941 and 14 September 1941 before having to enlist on 16 September 1941. |
After enlisting and basic training Franklin would have embarked for the U.K. where he arrived around 23 March 1942. He then went to 7 AFU 6 June 1942, 29 OTU 8 July 1942 and 1654 CF 30 September 1942. |
